Swiss legislator, Samuel Kullmann, has put forth an ambitious proposal to enshrine Bitcoin within the country’s constitution. This groundbreaking plan entails collecting 100,000 signatures within the next 18 months to pressure state parliaments to vote on the inclusion of Bitcoin. The proposal is currently under review by the Swiss federal government.
Kullmann informed Dennis Porter, founder of the Satoshi Act Fund about his pursuit of adding Bitcoin to the constitution. Expressing his enthusiasm for this initiative, Porter stated,
I’m very excited about what is happening in Switzerland. I was able to speak in Switzerland in 2024 on a panel alongside @samuelkullmann, who is a Swiss lawmaker doing incredible things to advance Bitcoin in the country.
As per Porter, this endeavor laid out by a group of 10 people including a number of Swiss crypto advocates, requires gathering a substantial number of signatures to trigger a vote on Bitcoin’s adoption by the Cantons (states). The proposal also urges the Central Bank to buy BTC for the Swiss National Reserve. Notably, Giw Zanganeh, VP of Energy and Mining at stablecoin issuer giant Tether is also among the advocate.
“Long Shot” But Worth It”- Bitcoin Advocate
While acknowledging the challenges and the long odds, Porter emphasized the importance of taking decisive action while momentum is on Bitcoin’s side. “It will be a lot of work and I know it’s a long-shot, but we need to be taking shots at the end zone now when we have the momentum,” Porter added.
Even if the signature goal is not reached, Porter believes this initiative will go in a long way to compel every member of Parliament at the Canton level to educate themselves about the crypto asset, fostering a deeper understanding of digital assets within the political landscape.
Porter congratulated the people of Switzerland and particularly commended Kullmann’s efforts. The Satoshi Act Fund has pledged continued support to Kullmann and his team as they embarks on this ambitious endeavor.
