Roblox is not planning to introduce support for XRP, the cryptocurrency associated with Ripple, despite the widespread claims that have been circulating. The gaming platform has refuted these claims, emphasizing that they are inaccurate. In the realm of social media, misinformation can rapidly propagate, persisting even after the original source material has been removed.
The rumors originated when BitPay, a payments processor, posted a now-deleted tweet suggesting that users could use XRP for Xsolla payments in supported games, including Roblox. BitPay’s tweet read, “Xsolla now accepts XRP with BitPay as a payment method for their games such as Smite and Roblox,” and implied that players could utilize their favorite cryptocurrency for in-game purchases.
Upon inquiry about the deletion of the tweet, BitPay’s CMO, Bill Zielke, cited an error in the tweet and indicated that more tweets about merchants accepting cryptocurrencies would be forthcoming. Nevertheless, the misinformation quickly spread, with some incorrectly interpreting it as this gaming platforms integrating XRP into its payment options. Prominent cryptocurrency investor Scott Melker even linked Roblox to XRP and suggested improved legal conditions for the token, although these claims lack verification and a reliable source.
Roblox explicitly refuted these claims, explaining that there is no truth to the notion of the platform collaborating with BitPay to introduce XRP to gamers. While Xsolla serves as one of this platforms payment providers, the platform does not facilitate cryptocurrency payments like Bitcoin or XRP. The removal of BitPay’s tweet was attributed to the dissemination of incorrect information.
Examination of Roblox
A brief examination of the process for purchasing Robux in-game currency through Roblox’s website revealed that the available U.S. payment options include credit card, debit card, gift card, PayPal, Venmo, Klarna, CVS Pharmacy payments, or Paysafecard, a prepaid cash card.
Xsolla, in response to inquiries, clarified that they offer payment options for developers to use across various platforms, with BitPay being just one of those options. Xsolla also emphasized that they were not associated with the now-deleted BitPay post. According to Xsolla’s website, the tech company provided a gift card solution for Roblox in 2020 and is listed as a payment provider on Roblox’s website for credit card transactions. Additionally, Xsolla extends its payment solutions to multiple other gaming companies, including Valve, Twitch, Epic Games, and Krafton, among others.
