At the Rare Evo 2024 conference, Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano (ADA), made a striking declaration about his blockchain’s evolution. He confidently claimed that the blockchain has become nearly invincible—like a tank, but with the speed of a Lamborghini.
“Cardano doesn’t go down—it’s built like a tank, but it’s fast now, so it’s built like a Lambo tank,” Hoskinson told the audience. This bold statement captures the essence of ADA’s journey over the past seven years. The blockchain has built a reputation for stability and security while scaling up to deliver high-speed performance.
Cardano: Balance of Strength and Speed
In the blockchain world, security often competes with speed. Many networks sacrifice one for the other, but Hoskinson emphasized that the blockchain aims for both. Its architecture has evolved steadily, reinforced by technical upgrades like Plutus V3 and Hydra. Plutus V3 enhances smart contract functionality, while Hydra, a layer-2 scaling solution, is designed to boost transaction throughput without compromising decentralization.
Cardano’s resilience is further validated by its uptime record. Since its inception, the network has maintained a nearly flawless track record, positioning it as one of the most stable in the industry. Over time, these strengths have earned ADA a place among the top blockchains by market cap.
A key moment during Hoskinson’s keynote was the demonstration of Hydra’s capabilities. The team ran the game “Doom” on the network, processing every frame as a transaction. They reached 35 frames per second, showcasing Hydra’s ability to handle up to one million transactions per second (TPS) with 30,000 players.
Hoskinson announced that at the upcoming Cardano Summit in Dubai, there will be a “Doom” deathmatch with a $100,000 prize in USDM, Cardano’s stablecoin. The event is intended to demonstrate Hydra’s scalability and other innovations like rollups and ZK folds being tested through Plutus V3.
Cardano’s evolution continues with the refinement of Ouroboros, its consensus algorithm, which balances the blockchain trilemma: security, scalability, and decentralization. As Cardano marches forward, it’s clear that the “Lambo tank” is ready for more.
